About this Site .....

Welcome! First thing to mention here is that this is a personal web site, created primarily for my own interest. I have made it accessible on the Net in the hope that any like minded people may find something of interest.

Through this web site I hope to illustrate a wide range of butterflies and moths of Tasmania. Many of these species will also be found in other parts of Australia, particularly the south east. Ultimately, I would like to use only my own photographs. However, in order to make the site a more useful resource, I have decided to include other photos in order to fill in the gaps. In such cases I have always asked permission from the copyright owners and have credited each photo accordingly. If you have photos you would like to share here, please contact me.

I have an interest in all aspects of natural history with a particular interest in moths & butterflies. However, as an amateur, I cannot guarantee 100% accuracy on the identification of those species shown on the site. Indeed, many species require microscopic examination of the genitalia to be sure of their identity. So, while I will make every effort to keep the information as accurate as possible, the site should not be considered in any way a source of scientific information or advice. . If you notice any glaring errors, I'd be more than happy to hear from you.

Above all, I hope this site will at the very least encourage an interest in moths and butterflies.
